The foreground bomber is Lockheed/Vega B-17F-25-VE Flying Fortress 42-5846 nicknamed "Tinker Toy" (535th BS). A fatal 20mm cannon shell shot from a Luftwaffe fighter not only had devastating and horrific effect but also began the infamous history of "Tinker Toy" as a jinx ship.
